North West London News
This website will provide you with all the news you need to know on North West London and the surrounding areas.
The city of London, England is divided by the River Thames into North London and South London. The north is supposed to be the more posh area and reported to be the more expensive.
There is a lot of competition between the two halves of the city. Historically, this competition is long-standing. In the mid-2000’s a London newspaper ran an article based upon this competition.
The north of London is the home of the City or central London in which resides the main financial or commercial district, comparable to that of New York City. The Tower of London was built in this section of during medieval times and is nearby but not actually situated within the City. In the mid-17th century, the City suffered the second of its Great Fires and was redesigned into the pattern of boulevards and street patterns still recognizable today.
St. Paul’s Cathedral, designed by Christopher Wren, was erected there in the early 1700’s. Most of the underground public transit system, the tube, is situated in this area of London. Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital, (“Barts”) is situated here as well.
The Old Bailey is England’s main criminal court and can be found in the City. There are no large parks found there but there is a bandstand and a bowling green. Several banks are housed here including the Bank of London and Lloyd’s of London.
Since the region is mainly a financial and banking area, it is reported to be quiet there on weekends. There seem to be only a few pubs and very little theatre and shopping here. The famous A1 Road begins in the City, or North London. Parts of well-known arts and drama schools as well as well-respected universities are also housed in this area of London.
The recent newspaper article held a competition to decide which parks, pubs and “Bad Boys” were better in the north of London. In the “Bad-Boy” competition, the North won because one of theirs was mentioned in a famous pop tune. The North also won in the “Best Street Name” category.
North London also won because it is the home of St. Paul’s Cathedral and because the City was filmed in Mary Poppins. South London won; however, in the best and longest-brewing brewery category. The North has a building in which Freud lived during the Austrian invasion and in which still resides one of his couches. The South ultimately won out in the museum, gallery and cinema categories.
William Shakespeare lived in South London but the North won out whenever bars and pubs were compared. The Kew Gardens is located in South London but is accessible via the tube.
North London is reported to be a quite safe place to live. On the other hand, it is reported to be more expensive and real estate prices are somewhat higher than in South London. Some reports accuse the City as being the “Best Tax Haven” in the world. This so-called tax haven is situated in this part of London, but there have been no comparisons made about this assertion in any newspaper competition.
